Hello Everyone,
Hopefully this newsletter finds you all well.
Past Events
Sunday 7th May 2023 was our regular Sunday meeting about 15 members gathered on a sunny afternoon at The Fox for a social gathering. It became apparent how much of the field will be lost to the proposed housing development. This was discussed at length and the general view was to start looking for an alternative venue. Car of the month was awarded to Kevin Cauter for his very nice Triumph Stag
Wednesday 17th May 2023 – Mid Month Meal - 14 people attended a very enjoyable evening at Hunters Meet, Hatfield Heath. A good meal with good company always makes for a good evening. Thanks go to Wendy Way for organizing this event.
Sunday 21st May 2023 – River Trip – 12 members enjoyed a relaxed trip on one of CanalAbility’s specially adapted wide beam boats from their base at Burnt Mill to Roydon lock and back to base. Everyone who wanted to was given the chance to steer the boat and help out at locks. The afternoon finished with the presentation of a cheque for £250 from the proceeds from last year’s car show. By popular demand we will be looking at a return for an xmas cruise.
21st – 22nd May – visit to Chatham Dockyard/Hornby Visitor Centre – only four people attended this visit but thanks to Richard Way for suggesting this trip.
2nd – 4th June weekend away to Caley Hall, Hunstanton. 30 members enjoyed an excellent weekend away. The hotel and food was excellent combined with lots of attractions close by there was something for everyone. The car of the month was awarded to Tony Coxall and his Morgan. Even the Norfolk weather decided to be generous to us. Thanks go to Dennis Northcott & Jan Fielding for organising this trip.
Wednesday 21st June 2023 – Mid month Meal – The White Hart Inn, Mersea. Unfortunately, this event had to be cancelled due to a lack of interest from members. Thanks to Gus Mckie for organising this event.
Tuesday 27th June Noggin & Natter
Sunday 9th July 2023 – Annual Car Show – Another bumper year for classic & sports cars on Matching Green. Thanks must go to the organising committee Jon Rome, Robert Chapman from MGCSCC, Martin Figg from Matching Green Cricket Club, Mike Nabaro, Alec Love and Martin Hardwick-Smith from Brentwood Lions.
The number of club members who attended was a little disappointing considering this was our main event of the year. The number of club members who volunteered to help was also a little disappointing but a big thank you to everyone who did come forward.
A special thank you from me to Richard Hinds, Mike Stares and Rob Pavitt who looked after the classic parking area for most of the day without a break as the group who were supposed to assist with this were unable to attend.
Thanks also to Mike & Heather Crowley and Jan Fielding for looking after the information desk and Jon Rome on the sound desk, Steve Saunders for the arena presentation and everyone who helped set out on the Saturday and clear up on the Sunday.
Best Club Car was awarded to Alister Smart for his Lancia 2000 and Best Club Sports Car was awarded to Matthew Wurr for his TVR Cerbera, congratulations to both.
