Chairman's Chat August 2022

Hello Everyone,

Hopefully you are all keeping well and have managed to cope with the recent exceptional weather it has been far too hot for me to get the TR4 out.

Past Events

Sunday 3 July saw the return of our annual car show & BBQ after an absence of two years due to Covid-19, that is the last mention of that promise. What a day it turned out to be, the weather was perfect and the crowds turned up in their droves. The first cars were arriving at 8:00am and by 11:00 the classic car park was nearly full, by 1:00pm we were having to turn cars away. This was by far our biggest event ever. My thanks go to everyone who attended and to everyone who volunteered to help over the weekend regardless of the amount of time you could spare without your help this event would not have been the success it was. Special thanks must go to the organising committee, Gus McKie, Martin Figg, Jon Rome, Rob chapman, Mike Nabarro and Steve Saunders. Steve had indicated that this would be his last show as arena commentator: your committee made the decision that as a thank you to Steve for the many years of service that we would make him a life member of the club. This is only the third person to have received this, the highest award that we can offer. Steve was so touched by this gesture that he has pledged his service to the car show for the foreseeable future. Thanks must also go to the other members of the club committee for all their work Mike Crowley, Wendy Way, Jan Fielding and Dennis Northcott.

As with every show we will be making donations to local charities and organisations including Essex Air Ambulance, St Clare’s Hospice and the Fire Benevolent fund.

Wednesday 20 July - The Orange Tree, Sawbridgeworth. Another great mid-month meal organised by Dennis & Jan, 11 people attended this event who all had a very enjoyable evening. We would like to encourage more people to attend these events.

Tuesday 26 July - Noggin & Natter – The Fox, Matching Tye. This was our very first of this type of event, an informal get together for people who might not be able to attend other events, We had about 10 people attend so we will run this for a few more months to see the reaction from members.
