Chairman's Chat April 2022

Hello Everyone,


Hopefully you are all keeping well and have been able to get your cars out during the recent

good weather.


Sunday 3rd April is our regular monthly meeting at The Fox Inn, Matching Tye, we meet

around 3pm, but some members book themselves in earlier for lunch. Click on this link for

Parking is limited but there may be space at the village hall a short walk away. If the

weather holds up we may be able to get on the field


Past Events

• Our visit to the de Haviland Aircraft museum at London Colney was attended by 20

members. We were greeted by the president of the board of trustees who then

guided us around the museum. The highlight of their collection is the Mosquito

prototype along with a very varied collection of other aircraft. Thanks go to Wendy

Way who organised the visit.

• The Mid-month lunch at The Hunters Meet, Hatfield Heath was attended by 12

members who were treated to an excellent meal as we have come to expect from the

restaurant, we were looked after by Brendan and his team. Thanks go to Wendy

Way for organising the event.


Events coming up

April 20th – Mid-month meal, Lobster Smack, Canvey Island, SS8 0NR 7:00pm. Please

contact Mike Crowley if you would like to attend. We are now reverting to our summer

calendar and will now be holding this and future events on a Wednesday evening.


April 24th – National Drive-It Day (Plaques available now from FBHVC link on our website)

No age restrictions, all cars are welcome. We will meet at the Squadron, North Weald

Airfield for breakfast, leaving at 10:30am. We will then follow a detailed tulip route to

Ridgewell Airfield Museum then to Little Easton Church to see the stained glass windows

returning to The Fox, Matching Tye for lunch which is booked for 3:00pm the tour is

approximately 2 to 3 hours driving time. Please contact Ian Robinson for more details.


April 30th – P&A Wood Rolls Royce specialist, Saturday 10am (max 12 on the tour), with a

possible lunch afterwards at Green Man, Linsell. There are four places left on this trip.

May 28th/29th Sat./Sun (leaving Monday) Newmarket/Ely tour – Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa

£465.00 for dinner, bed & breakfast in one of their king bedrooms. We will depart form The

Fox and follow a detailed tulip route to the hotel or you can make your own way there.

Sunday July 3rd – Annual Show and BBQ This will be a collaborative event with Matching

Green Cricket Club and other local organisations, however we still need help from club

members on Saturday 2nd to set up and for the show day. Please contact Gus McKie if you

are able to assist in any way.


We need some ideas from the membership for a venue for the mid-month lunch scheduled

for 20th July 2022, do you have a pub or restaurant near you that would be suitable for a

visit, please contact a member of the committee.

Other Events

May 22nd – Imperial War Museum, London. Club member Joe Wells who is also a member

of the Bentley Drivers Club is organising a visit to the museum in a vintage 1956 Bedford

SB coach which has appeared on TV. The coach will leave Epping at 9:30am returning

back at Epping at approx. 5:30pm, cost per person £35.00. There is an optional meal at

Wildwood restaurant afterwards at extra cost. If you would like to attend please contact Joe,
